Move balance between compatible programme wallets.
What is a Transfer?
A transfer moves balance from one of your wallets to another wallet — either one of your own
or another user's wallet. Transfers are atomic: the debit and credit happen simultaneously,
with no risk of partial completion.
Programme Compatibility
Not all wallets can transfer to each other. Transfers are only permitted between
compatible programmes. Compatibility is defined by the issuing organisation
and reflects regulatory and business rules.
- Same-programme transfers are generally always allowed.
- Cross-programme transfers require an explicit compatibility rule to be configured.
- If the programmes are incompatible, the transfer will be rejected immediately.
Exchange Rates on Cross-Programme Transfers
When transferring between wallets in different currencies (e.g. programme points to ZAR),
an exchange rate applies. The rate is locked at the time of the transfer
and shown to you for confirmation before you proceed. The locked rate is recorded permanently
in your transaction history.
How to Transfer Funds
- Open FinWallet and go to your wallet.
- Tap Transfer.
- Select the source wallet (the one you're sending from).
- Select or enter the destination wallet. For transfers to another user, you'll need their wallet identifier.
- Enter the amount to transfer from the source wallet.
- If a cross-currency exchange rate applies, review the converted amount and confirm you accept the rate.
- Tap Confirm Transfer.
Tip: Transfers are immediate and cannot be reversed once confirmed.
Double-check the destination wallet and amount before tapping Confirm.
Transfer Errors
- "Insufficient balance" — your available balance is lower than the requested amount. Check for reserved amounts.
- "Incompatible programmes" — the source and destination programmes cannot transfer between each other.
- "No exchange rate available" — a cross-currency transfer was attempted but no rate is configured. Contact your programme administrator.
- "Wallet suspended" — either wallet is suspended. Transfers are blocked until the suspension is resolved.
